This really is a fun and exciting time of year.
The kids are all headed back to school, major league baseball is getting into the pennant chase (my O’s kinda suck this year) and the NFL will once again dominate Sundays in the U.S.!
GO BROWNS!!!
And, just like playing a child’s game, getting back to school isn’t just for the kids.
Let me explain … no, there is no time … allow me to sum up … (anybody? anybody? Inigo Montoya in Princess Bride … when they’re getting ready to storm the castle…)
Anyway … I’ve been going at it, studying, seriously trying to learn the whole Web 2.0/social media marketing thing for my business for just about a year now. Not very well, mind you, for the first few months, but giving it the ol’ college try nonetheless.
I’ve been around the home-business arena for 20+ years and this is, without a doubt, the most exciting time to be involved. The technological advances over the past couple of years, let alone the past 20, allow us to potentially reach millions, without spending much money at all. Think about that - millions!
Yeah, you go ahead and make your list of 100 of your friends and family that might be interested … are you close to ”millions” yet?
How ’bout now?
Anyway, at issue was that, while I got a great education on the concept of it all,
I didn’t really understand how - a) to start building the individual pieces, and b) how to put all the pieces together to form the whole.
Now, I’m just regular guy - I like to watch my football on Sunday with a cold beer and a bag of pork rinds. I mow the lawn after work. My 5th grader asks me for help with her math homework and I have absolutely no clue how to do it!
I will go out on a limb and say that I’m at least halfway intelligent on the internet, but even that might be a stretch.
But for some reason,
I just couldn’t figure out how to build my Facebook page or my Twitter account or my blog, the way I was “supposed to”. The way “they” said it was supposed to work.
Sound familiar?
I mean, I could sign up and add my name and say what my favorite movie is, but then what???
It was like bringing home my first-born from the hospital - WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS THING?!
So, as I continued my search for the answers to that $64,000 question (the young people are going, “Huh?”) I hung out in a few different communiites here and there that promised to show me the secrets to building a successful business through Web 2.0.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there really are several solid choices out there for learning different aspects of building your business, but truth be told,
I was looking for a community where -
#1) they knew what they were talking about
#2) they had real live people that I could talk to (not type to) and interact with regularly, and …
#3) I felt like I could fit in without being made to feel like an idiot for not already knowing what to do with my Twitter! Enter
MyPrivateClassroom where I was fortunate enough to be sponsored in by one of the community’s founders. I even told my wife, “Hey, my sponsor is one of the company’s founders. How can I go wrong?!” Then my wife took a look at Kristen’s photo and promptly smacked me upside the back of the head …..
Once I convinced my wife that I really wasn’t trying to “hit on” Kristen, I joined
MyPrivateClassroom, and the first thing I noticed was the attitude of the people hanging out here, or perhaps I should say the lack thereof.
Not only do
the instructors speak from proven experience, but
everyone here is down-to-earth, friendly, and are really just “leave-the-B.S.-at-the-door” kinda people. People who had started right where I had and weren’t afraid to admit it and share their experiences about it, good and bad, with everyone.
My kinda people! No pretentious attitudes. Nobody with the whole, “you’re an idiot for not already knowing this” mentality.
So, I’ve been a member of
MPC for a few months now, and
since joining, I have learned more in those few months, about how to create a synergystic marketing machine, than I had in my previous 20 years of dabbling in the network marketing industry. I’ve learned how to build and use my
Facebook page and my
Twitter account and
my website and
my blog and everything else to help build my business - from the very basic foundation - and I’ve learned how to use them together. If you think using just one of these tools by itself is cool, imagine getting them to work together … in-sync! It’s wild!
And the best part is - I’m collaborating with, and I’ve created real friendships and business relationships with, real people - not self-proclaimed overnight gurus. With people who are more interested in learning and sharing and growing than in making a quick buck. There’s a lot to be said for that.
So, if you’re in the same position I was a year ago - unable to spell Web 2.0, let alone able to make sense of social media marketing and all the pieces that go along with it - I highly recommend sticking around
MyPrivateClassroom.
We’ve just opened up a ton of free training to the public - the first time MPC has ever done this.
If you haven't already, go ahead and check out the "
Getting Started" section and start checking out some of the great free training material ... and talk to some of the great people who hang out here. You just might find it’s what you’re looking for.
Cheers!
