My Private Classroom For Marketers

Hey Gang...

By now you know that Twitter is all the rage just as I predicted a year ago :)

But what I did not expect is the way in which the game has played out.

I'd love to hear your observations on how people are hooking up on Twitter and what you can see about the nature of the relationships being formed.

There is a science to this process.

Let's decode it as a group.

Why are some people out on the dance floor going to town and others wallflowers at the Twitter party and how can you get more traffic and build your name out there.

When you reply please be sure to put your twitter link so we can all follow one another

Mine is www.Twitter.com/DianeHochman

Let's really dig into this and uncover stuff we all can use to advance our businesses.

Also..if you have a twitter training video feel free to embed it in a post here.

Let's Roll!!!!

I have built up quite a following on Twitter, but no real contacts yet and no business. I have only been on a few months. I tend to attract bloggers amd marketers or maybe this is the crowd that uses Twitter the most. I get a lot of valuable information and insights on marketing there. I notice some people ask for specific services. I think I need to use it a little more to say it's working for me.

Hey Diane,

I believe that Twitter like the other social sites are just that

SOCIAL..

If you want to play you want to learn to be social
or bring your social skills here with you.

Just because this is online and not face to face one
must remember.... they are at a social function.

How would (you) anyone behave at a social event?
This is how you should behave here..

To get more traffic is to be more social. It can't always be business..
To build your name out there would be a mixture or both..

Being free as a bird and social.. Being YOU!!!
And then never forgetting to slip in now and then how
YOU can lead someone to the place they want to go.

To come across as a leader
even if you don't think you are (yet) is key

People are looking for leaders..

And if you continue
to educate yourself in these areas believe you me
you know more than most.
So go tell it on the mountain!

Not in a Bragging kind of way.. no no no
In a matter of fact kind of way.

Point people to what you know, share with
them great articles you think are relevant ect.

Put your Twitter link in your signature's
Asking folks to follow you.

I just posted a blog here all about Twitter.
Go check it out! ;-)
The Title Is:
Now Is The Time To Twitter

I have gotten 30 new follower's since this most
recent post. 1 day ago.. Look and see what
I provided for the folks..Decode it if you will..

Thanks for opening this discussion up Diane
As always you create a "thinking tank" for your
students!

It's great that you have learned so much. I am learning which networrks are good for me and which are not. I have learned to spend less time in the networks so that I can do more productive things.

So, JoAnn, go tell it on the mountain!

You BEING a LEADER....as YOURself. That actually is harder then it sounds...

You make it seem easy JoAnn.

Thank you for the Demonstration.

Fact of the matter is, while there are some general "guidelines" on how you might wanna use these tools, HOW you use them depends on you...your style...your personality...your intent.

I see people strictly pitching their business on there and seemingly get folks to bite. Every single stinking Tweet is a pitch. Personally, that gets on my nerves...I don't care for that "style" and I UnTweet these people.

I see other people NEVER pitch a doggone thing or who only follow a dozen or two others, and these guys have THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of followers. This is usually the handful of "gurus" that we all know of.

But the regular folk (like you and me) that I see that seem to have the most success are doing exactly what JoAnn is talking about, and that's mixing it up. Being social, and when it comes up in natural conversation, business comes up.

The people who are engaging in conversations with others...the people who are providing useful information for others...the people providing entertainment - funny video links or whatever...people providing something thought provoking...

These are the people who are having the most success...according to MY definition anyway...

At the end of the day, what works for me, might not work for you, and vice-versa.

JoAnn hit the nail on the head - social networks are SOCIAL.

Picture if you will....you're throwing a big holiday party...suddenly, Big Goofy Rick walks in and moves right to the middle of the room without even saying hi, and I just start pitching my business to everyone there...I don't bother to compliment a pretty dress, I don't tell any jokes, I don't even have the decency to tell you how great the onion dip is....I just start pitching like there's no tomorrow...and don't let up for the entire party....

Would you really let me do that? For the entire party???

Cheers!

Hey Rick,

If you came to my party and
acted like that.. I would let
my guest eat you for their main course!

Remind me to invite you to my next party! lol...

Thanks for contributing Rick it's this kind of dialogue
that lends to insight!

More people should participate, One gets so much
more when they do!

I try and provide content that my target market needs. I keep feeding them, but I also reveal a little of me personality so that they know waht kind of person I am, what I enjoy, what I think of news events, etc. But the main thing is that they get fed with info that will help them stay in business, especially in this economy.

People are concerned about their businesses right now. Sometimes they don't know how to find the info I give them. Sometimes they don't know enough to look for it. I am still feeling my way around.

I think some people are just totally oblivious to what being YOU really is.

When you are yourself and genuine, you will attract more people.

Think about the mall... There are tons of stores and the thing that attracts people

to go inside is either a window display / sign or an advertisement that they have seen

somewhere else...

What if there were people standing outside of every store...

Each one coming up to you as you walked by, grabbing your arm and rambling on about

what their deals were or what awesome merchandise they had..

YOU WOULD RUN - and RUN FAST!

No one wants to be approached.
No one wants to be "sold".

It's human nature.

No one knows what you would talk about at the food court with your

girlfriends. No one knows what you would talk about on the bank fishing with your

buddies... ONLY YOU.

When you are using twitter or any other social networking site..

It is important to just be you and say what you would say if you were at the

food court or on that bank.

The problem I think a lot of people have is they just don't know HOW to be social..
