Hey Carl,

The videos won't help with all the widgets and gizmos. You got it, there are a ton of them. From the "dashboard" there are many links to lots of info about Wordpress. But still that is a case of information overload.

What I will do here soon is add some links to some of the plugins I think are important as well as what they are used for. Plus we can keep adding, because there are a ton of them.

Sociable Wordpress Plugin

Social bookmarking sites allow websurfers to save, catalog, and share interesting pages they find online. The Sociable plugin appends links for your readers to use those sites to the end of each of your blog’s posts, increasing your potential audience.

Hey Jeff, is there a plug-in that's needed to put videos on a wordpress blog? I tried to put a video up yesterday but it didn't show..

Hey Ontarian,

You don't need a plugin.

Go into your admin dashboard.

Click on users.

Uncheck "Use Visual Rich Editor When Writing."


That should fix the problem, though you may have to click on your username after you click on Users before you see the box.

Depends on your version.

That means start with a foundation that no one can take away from you...wordpress! and use all the tools, plugins, that are available to you to build your base, The Foundation of YOU on the Internet....

Steve, I'm not sure if your point was to use Wordpress, or not to use wordpress. But what you just described applies to every free service online. Happens all the time. As you know, My Space is famous for that.

I would never recommend anyone, host their blog at Wordpress.com They do not like our Industry and will tear your house down. But I love Wordpress when it's hosted.

I'm looking forward to what you have to share on Wordpress. I expect you know quite a bit about it.

Hi Jeff,
I have a 2 Wordpress blogs and 1 on Blogger, all are free.

So where and how do I get hosting for them? And can you explain the reasons why the free ones are not good to use. And also the benefits of having a paid account? I've not had any problems, tho I'm just a beginngin blogger, so I'm not understanding the reasons to use hosting (and how it's enacted).

I truly appreciate your help here, along with Ontarian's too :)
I'm another newbie to this techie stuff, so I'll be testing your patience also...... and knowledge! LOL

Here is another Wordpress plugin I think is important. The Do Follow plugin.

By default Wordpress comes installed with a search engine tag called the No Follw tag. What this means is,
when someone leaves a comment on your blog, and creates a link to their site, the link created
automatically has a no follow tag with it.

This prevents the search engine robots from follwing the link your commentor left. And as bloggers we
want the search engines to count links to our site.

The software I shared Comment Kahuna searches for blogs that do not have the no follow tag.

Since we as bloggers want people to comment on our blogs, removing the do not follow tag gives other
bloggers more of an incentive to comment.

The puprose of the no follow tag was to prevent comment spam. But it doesn't work. The best way to keep
comment spam to a minimum is with the Akismet Plugin which already
comes with recent Wordpress versions.

To make the Askimet plugin work you need a Wordpress API key

Yes, this may all seem very technical. But Wordpress is a very powerful tool and between myself, and Steve,
I am sure we can get you assistance if you need it.

Hey Gang,

Okay, I guess I exaggerated my level of tech skill a little on the blog and on the call the other night. I must admit I am not a Lo Techie... I am a NO Techie.

Jeff, I went through the beginners course... you might have heard a WHOOOSH sound... 'cause it flew right over my head.

I checked out Wordpress site and Blogger site. Read some of the drawbacks regarding Blogger and spam...

Sorry, finally, here is the question: I would llike to use Wordpress, but it is all quite confusing to me. Blogger seems simple. Should I start with Blogger and then switch it over to Wordpress... or will I be creating more unnecesary work for myself? Second, Not sure I get the hosting part with wordpress? I would be more than happy to host where you guys are if you can earn some cash if I sign up from you.

I guess maybe I will have to do a BLOGGING FOR DUMMIES video when I get this figured out! ;-)
