Thank You Julie I will watch it. And may I add it is going to be cool getting to know you better. I liked your picture on my space first and then saw you were involved in another company and I was so new I justleft you alone. Now I know the better choice and I am glad our paths have crossed and connected.

If the video doesn't answer your questions about RSS, ask away. There was a time when RSS was the new thing. "The Death of Email Marketing" was the claim. I studied it quite a bit and can see what I am able to pull from my memory banks.

The big thing to know is that if you are blogging you are creating an RSS feed. Then there are RSS feed readers. Often people will subscribe to a blog using an RSS reader. Almost like email.

Also, there are many sites that let you add an RSS feed. Like here. You can add your blog feed url to these sites and those sites will then display the titles and often a small portion of your blog entries, making links to your different blog posts.

There are also sites (directories) that are entirely made up of RSS feeds. This all helps you to get your content spread all over the Internet and indexed by Google.

Hope that helps,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, after I view the video and then re-read your reply I am hoping for clarity. I appreciate your time and this place! :)

Hey Jeff...

I'm gonna chime in with you...

Know what's really cool...

All THESE pages have RSS feeds.

Just scroll down and you will see the link to subscribe to the rss feed of the conversations we have going on here.

Most of your browsers have a RSS reader so you can have feeds delivered directly to you every day.

Kind of a great way to keep track of your favorite blogs etc.

I am not sure but I would guess that the activity tracker on the front page that shows who is doing what is also pulling RSS feeds from each of us as we d o certain things...then listing what we did for all to see.

Cool stuff.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel," contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader" or an "aggregator". The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

The initials "RSS" are used to refer to the following formats:

* Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
* RDF Site Summary (RSS 1.0 and RSS 0.90)
* Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91)

RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats.

So here's the cool thing about RSS and why it's definately worth learning more about.

Having RSS subscribers is good, just like having email subcribers is.

But what I really like is the fact that you can pull your RSS feeds from one site to another.

Example. Click on my picture and view my profile here at MPC. Down further on the left you will see my blog entries from a blog I run on a different site.

Having that feed here is not so important. But there are tons of networks hosted on Ying you could join, and place your RSS feed on all of them, and have your blog posts everywhere.

Tons of places online linking to your blog, bringing you traffic, all from one post. Because the feeds get updated automatically.
